I’ve always actually quite liked ironing. There I said it. Most people hate it, but I’ve always found it a bit therapuetic. When I used to work as a solicitor I used to iron 3 weeks of shirts at a time (i.e. 15 shirts) and then wear them and when I ran out, iron another 15 (not actually the same 15, I had about 30 shirts). Since I stopped working as a lawyer, I don’t really have to wear a suit, and while I still wear shirts, I haven’t really done much ironing in about a year.

This is going somewhere, stay with me. Part of my new years resolution was to try and dress a bit better and look a bit better (it’s a “look good, feel good” psychobabble inspired move) but my efforts have been constantly thwarted by creased and unironed clothes, and, I concede my own personal laziness. So today I decided to make a change, and I ironed all my clothes (16 shirts, 7 pairs of jeans and trousers etc, a load of T-Shirts, some jumpers/tops) and organised my wardrobe. Rory who I work with was going on about the editor of Vogue saying that she has some motto about a clean and organised desk. I’m not entirely sure what that motto is, but I think its broadly speaking, “clean and tidy is good”. So, step 1 was to get everything clean and tidy (I also put on two washes) and step 2, which starts immediately following step 1, is to keep it that way. I have a plan which involves washing on Friday afternoon, drying across the weekend and ironing on Sunday. Yes it’s sad, but I work better to a plan and schedule.

Anyway, this is the fruits of today’s labour.

Ta-Dan!!!

Looking at it, it is very sad. Thinking about it, it is even sadder. Here I am, a DJ on the biggest youth station in the city, finished work today at 12 noon, and I’ve spent the whole afternoon ironing and organising. Still, I feel good for doing it.

I’ve been doing a lot of motivational thinking and while I know it’s a bit of a poncy thing to do, I’ve decided to try and blog or post some sort of diary thoughts each day, alonside the marathon training entries. I’m a bit self conscious about it, because I’d be the first to say “who the F**K wants to read about his day” if someone else did it, but everyone says that writing about things is a helpful thing to do anyway (though I think the idea is that you write them down for yourself, not necessarily share them with the world) and I’m hoping that it will have a similar motivational effect as the marathon training entries. So, for example, if I’ve done nothing, and I have to blog that I’ve done nothing, I might inspire me to….well, do something.

The only thing I’m hoping to avoid is to have it become counter productive, where instead of actually doing stuff, I end up blogging about not doing stuff….We’ll see how we get on. I’m not going to post on facebook or twitter when I put these posts up, the are just for me, and for anyone else who stubles upon them. So let’s see what happens.

To summarise, today I did a radio show, made a few videos and ironed and washed clothes. Ryan Phillips. Rockstar.

Tomorrow, hoovering……
