The pigging out over the last few days, and particularly yesterday has felt great at the time, but it’s always the next day when you look in the mirror or stand on the scales or feel tired and unfit, or all of the above (as today) that you regret doing it. Today I was back in the gym, but my body wasn’t really there with me, or my legs anyway. I only managed 10 minutes at full pace on the bike,, then 5 minutes at a lower pace. That’s really piss poor to be honest. I was fairly fucked off to feel like I was going backwards instead of making progress.

After that I did manage a good 30 minutes on the cross trainer to be fair, but it probably wouldn’t have put a dent in the amount of crap that I shoved down my yapper last night. Still, it’s better than the last 2 days and that’s something to be at least mildly thankful for!!

One of the things I find strange about exercising and the body is how one day you could cycle 7km and not feel like you were about to die, and 24 hours later, after 2km you’re ready to throw in the towel and leave the gym to someone else. I didn’t, leave the gym, but I bloody well wanted to. I know it’s all seeming a bit repetitive at this stage, so you probably wont be shocked to hear that I did 25 minutes on the sit down bike thing and 20 minutes on the cross trainer. Next week I’m going to start doing a bit of swimming, then adding some weights the week after and finally starting to job regularly in the run up to Christmas.

I spoke to my Physio Friend Claire today, and she’s coming over On Sunday with some exercises for me so that I can try and strengthen my ankles and knees and not get injured when I start jogging regularly. I also found out that Brian Maher from the Zoo Crew on Spin1038 is planning on running the marathon for the second time this year, so I think I may have found a training buddy, albeit one who I am months behind in terms of fitness levels!!

I got on the scales after the gym and was 11 and a half stone. That’s roughly on target for where i wanted to be for Christmas, so I’m treating myself to a pizza and some junk food and wine tonight. Everything in Moderation of course….

Look, anyone will tell you that an important aspect of any training programme is incorporating rest days. So today was a rest day, where no exercise whatsoever was undertaken. Does anybody know for sure when the correct time to weigh yourself is? My weight can differ by 4-6lbs depending on the time of day, and whether I have eaten or not. Anyway, the scales today looked ok, but it’s a dodgy cheap one we bought in Dunnes Stores, so i’m not sure how reliable it is at the best of times.

I ate a load of Halloween leftovers this morning (while trying to find my clothes!) which sank the diet for the day, but was on best behaviour after that and treated myself to a can of coke zero and some low fat crisps last night. I think i’m totally awesome drinking coke zero, but then I saw a report in the paper this morning that said drinking 2 cans of diet coke a day can DOUBLE your chances of getting serious kidney disease (or something) which I’m assuming also holds true for coke zero? That’s a disaster frankly!!

How could this be bad for me?

Operation “drink gallons of water” continues a-pace, with more wee breaks than seems healthy or helpful!!

Back to training tomorrow afternoon with another game of squash!
