Today, It was really important just to get back into the gym and do some bloody exercise. I haven’t done any since Thursday (it’s now Sunday) and the exercise on Thursday was rubbish, so really it has been Wednesday since I’ve done any meaningful training/exercise.

So, at 6 O’Clock on a Sunday evening I toddled off to the now infamous Wyckham Point gym linked to our apartments and hammered out 20 minutes on the bike and 20 on the cross trainer for old time’s sake. I wish I was experiencing more dramatic results or improvements in performance, but I honestly don’t feel particularly better now that when I started 5 weeks ago. In my presumable naievety, I had thought that after 5 weeks of training, the 20 minutes cycling and cross training that I started off on would seem like a doddle, but sadly that is not the case. A shame when you consider that I’m one tenth the way through my training year!! (There I go with my fractions again!)

Anyway, that counts as one good training day. If I can stretch that out and get another 3 or 4 in the next 5 to 6 days, I’ll be back on track. Today I feel a bit rubbish!

Here, as always, is the evidence

Another 7km cycled, it all counts

It doesn’t make any sense. You’re half way to recycling, then you mess it all up. The bin beside the glass one is the one for the plastic and carboard etc. Arrghhhhh. It’s not rocket science.

The long and winding road (do do) to your….start line.

Sorry, I’m not sure what i was trying for there. My unofficial physio came over to the apartments. I say unofficial, because I haven’t told her that I’m planning on running the marathon and that she has to treat me for free every time I injure myself. This will test to see if she’s reading the website anyway.

I’ve been harping on since day one about my weak knees and ankles and that I can’t do any real jogging until I get them sorted. Well according to Clare, it’s most likely that my problems are stemming from my posture, and the probably culprit is none other than my ass, which is pulling everything in the wrong place and putting pressure on my knees and ankles (note, she didn’t call it my ass, it is my “glutes” apparently that are the problem).

Either way, I’ve been given a load of exercises to try and fix the problem. I must take a video of me trying some of them ,they are very funny. And can I just tell you, that doing squats (one of the exercises) is outrageously painful and energy sapping! So, now that i have my exercise and things, I’ve got to put them into practice for the next month and build everything up, so I’m still on course to start doing some serious jogging after Christmas….

In the meantime it was back over to the gym for more time on the bike and the cross trainer. Really pushed myself and upped the tempo and resistance. I was sweating buckets (lovely) by the end. One thing that I find strange about particularly the bike and the cross trainer, is that on the bike, my heart rate will be lower, but I’ll be a lot more out of breath and “feeling the burn” whereas on the cross trainer, it doesn’t feel like I’m pushing myself too hard, but I’m heart rate is throught the roof?! Thoughts/Suggestions anyone?

To celebrate the fact that I had done so much in the gym, I had half a bottle of wine, half a packet of the big pack of walkers sensations and a load of after eights. Ok, so in terms of weightloss, that’s no use, but in terms of improving general levels of fitness, I think the balance was acceptable for a Sunday evening in front of the TV with X-Factor!!

It works!! This blog works. Tonight, I didn’t want to go to the gym. I put it off all day. I went to bed for 3 and a half hours in the middle of the afternoon, I avoided anything remotely connected to fitness, health and well being. Then I thought about leaving a day blank here, or worse, having to type and put into words, that at day 17 I had missed yet another day’s training due to lack of motivation, and I got up off my ass, cycled 20 minutes, cross trained for 20 minutes and burned over 500 calories!!

I’m absolutely chuffed and it’s given me some sort of confidence that I’m doing the right thing by keeping this blog. Truth be told, it doesn’t particularly matter how many people read or follow it, if I think peope are, it motivates me. And even now, when I know nobody is (because nobody knows it exists) I’m still motivated to do it, because if you have to sit down at a computer and type “I did not training today” it’s a horrible feeling when you’ve got no good reason or excuse!

Anyway, I did a good training session in the Gym in Wyckham Point (the apartments where I live) and have to say that having a gym on site could be one of the handiest things in the world ever.

As always, the screen never lies!!

Woop Woop, that's some good exercising!!
