Pro Tools 8 running on Windows 7
Huzzah
I blogged a while ago that I had (somewhat foolishly) upgraded to Windows 7 without first checking that all the major programmes that I use were fully Windows 7 compliant. As it then turned out, Pro Tools 7 LE was not compatible with it. I use pro tools to edit the continuity voiceovers that I do for 3e, so not being able to do that on this computer meant having to lug about my old XP laptop as well on the days when I planned on editing. Anyway, I now see that digidesign have release pro tools 8.03 which is a beta windows 7 version.
I was eligble for a free upgrade to pro tools 8 because of when I bought my M-box micro 2 (which I only just found out, result) so i downloaded pro tools 8, then the version 8.03 upgrade. The installation wasn’t without its occasional difficulty, and there’s some bugs with internet explorer 8 installed too, but it is up and running and working fine for the minimal work I have to do in recording and editing the 3e continuity, so I’m delighted! That also means that I don’t have to partition my hard-drive and dual boot the laptop, because I was only doing that to install XP so I could run Pro Tools. Problem solved!! Still have to fully play around with Pro Tools 8, but it looks great. Will post again on it once I have had a good poke around!
