Arrrggghhh. I’ve been having problems with the home page and trying to display the most recent posts. I thought I had it cracked when I installed the Smooth Slider plugin, which is supposed to create a little slideshow which I could have used to display the most recent 5 posts. Unfortunately, I didn’t work as I planned and I wasted an hour of my day trying to get it up and running but to no avail. It’s very very frustrating. The problem is that the “Recent Post” plugin that I have used works fine on all the other pages wont show posts that already feature on the homepage….back to the drawing board I think, but now I might just have to put a tab in the tabber with “Most Recent” or something to make sure that nobody misses any of my incredible wit and insight!

I wanted to install a countdown timer on the website to count me down to the Dublin City Marathon 2010, D-day as it were. The marathon is on Bank Holiday Monday 25 October 2010, which according to the timer today, is 342 days away!

One of the frustrating things about trying to put together a website like this is that, just doing small basic things aren’t as easy as you might imagine. So for example, the countdown clock looks like this….

Countdown to Dublin City Marathon 2010

It’s fine, and it looks nice, but it’s wrecking my head that the clock is not centred in the middle of the widget….and do you think I can figure out how to edit it to do that? No, no I can not, so it’s back off to google in search of the answer. On the plus side, without google I’d be totally stuffed!!

I just have to say that I can’t recommend highly enough using Studiopress for your wordpress themes. I have been blown away by the support on their support forums. I literally haven’t had to ask one single question yet because every question I have had so far has already been asked, and brilliantly answered. Thanks to them I think my site is actually starting to take shape quite nicely. Yes, it does cost money to buy the theme, but you get what you pay for. Mine only cost €40 and it comes with the brilliant support I was talking about. If you don’t really know anything about wordpress, then save yourself a lot of time and hassle and pay out the relatively small amount to get a great theme with great support. That’s my 2 cents anyways

Nice work Studiopress

A plaugue on the house of everyone who works at GoDaddy.com

Granted, this is not entirely their fault, but someone has to take the rap here, and it’s sure as shit not going to be me. I decided I wanted to start this blog the same day that I decided that I was running the marathon. That’s about 2 weeks ago now, and I think they idea for the blog came at the very start. What ensued then was weeks of me fumbling around in the dark looking for a free theme to use as my site. Then I finally realised that with my level of knowledge (less than minimal) I couldn’t actually make the site look like I wanted with a free theme. So I bought one from a premium site, and started getting it how I like it…..MISTAKE

I made the mistake of starting to post stuff before I was sure that the site worked the way I wanted. It didn’t, so I had to start again from scratch having changed my hosting from Windows to Linux (that’s another day’s posting) so that I could support “pretty” permalinks here on the blog….

Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I’ve got to now spend a few days populating the website with the last 2 weeks marathon posts (I have them saved on email) and other stuff so that when someone actually stumbles across this site (mostly at my direction through facebook/twitter/email) there will be something here to read….Didn’t think of that before I started!!

Here’s something to tick that box….>TICK

Godaddy do have some redeeming features, not sure about their support though
